In an initiative to create awareness regarding low back pain which is pain is one of the most common medical problems in the world, Amcare Hospital on the eve of Independence day, organized a one day awareness session on “Freedom from Pain”. During this session, Dr Anil Sofat, Consultant Neurosurgeon (Ex- GMCH Chandigarh), Amcare Hospital, Zirakpur, gave a talk on “How to manage low back pain before it gets worse?”
As a part of their social corporate responsibility, Amcare Hospital, Zirakpur, regularly organize various awareness session regarding to prevention of diseases to do their bit towards creating a healthy community.
During the session, in his talk Dr Sofat shared that the occurrence of low back pain in India is also alarming with nearly 80% of the people in India have suffered from low back pain at some time during their lifespan. Dr Sofat shared that one of the best ways to prevent back pain is to keep your back muscles strong. Follow these steps to help protect your back and prevent back pain:
• Do back-strengthening and stretching exercises at least 2 days a week.
• Stand and sit up straight.
• Avoid heavy lifting. If you do lift something heavy, bend your knees and keep your back straight. This way, your leg muscles will do most of the work.
• Get active and eat healthy. Being overweight can strain your back. Getting active regular physical activity and eating choosing healthy foods can help you stay at a healthy weight.
The awareness sessions were carried out from 9 am to 5 pm in small batches to maintain proper social distancing. Hospital physiotherapist also took a session on exercise for all ages to prevent low back strain. A special session for senior citizen was also done on daily exercise routine.
